What are the Karst fields in Croatia and how are they created?
Large Karst fields in Croatia are: Gacko, Ličko, Imotsko, Krbavsko and Sinjsko plains. As reliefs they can be counted among basins, specific relief shapes of the Dinaric Karst. Waterways run through them dropping underground over precipices and due to the imbalance between inflow and underground runoff during rainy periods many fields are flooded (periodic mud). Most of the Karst fields were created by river erosion and accumulation and by corrosion (dissolution of rock by water) in tectonic canyons.
